About the 1508NH
The 1508NH is what you buy when the 1541S is almost enough. It is the same kind of machine, a single needle compound feed flatbed, but built on the 1508 platform with a vertical-axis large hook, a longer needle bar stroke and a bigger 5/8 inch knee lift. The result is a machine that will run 138 thread all day and 207 when you need it, through stacks of leather, canvas or webbing that make a lighter machine skip.
The H in the model stands for heavy. The 1508N without the H is a medium-heavy machine; the NH uses the longer 190 needle system in the heavy configuration so the needle has more shank in the bar and deflects less in dense material. If you sew webbing, saddle pads, tarps, or leather over 8 oz, this is the flatbed to start with.
