About the 1508L-18

The 1508L-18 is the 1508 class head, vertical-axis large hook, unison feed, 9mm stitch, with 18 inches between the needle and the arm. A car seat cover, a door panel, a boat cushion or a tarp section lies flat to the right of the needle. The air foot lift (5/8 inch) lets the operator raise the foot from the pedal with both hands on the work, and the climbing device keeps the stitch even over a welt or a seam crossing.

It runs thread from 46 to 138 through 135x17 needles at up to 1,800 RPM, and it is the machine in our video titled best sewing machine for auto upholstery. That is not marketing: it is what most trim shops in Pennsylvania end up buying from us.

There is a high-arm version, the 1508L-18H, with 2 inches more clearance under the arm, and a 25 inch version on video.

Questions about the 1508L-18

Why not just a standard arm?

Because a seat cover rolled up under a 10 inch arm fights the operator on every seam. The 18 inch arm is the single biggest quality-of-life change an upholstery shop makes.

What is the 1508L-25?

The same head with 25 inches under the arm, shown on video with a top and bottom feed puller and with direct drive. Ask for a quote.

Air or no air?

This model has an air foot lift. If you do not have a compressor, the 1510L-18-7 and 0617DL-18-7 are alternatives, or we fit a knee lift.
