Heavy-duty zig-zag sewing machines

Wide, strong zig-zag for sails, neoprene, webbing and anything that stretches.

A zig-zag seam gives where a straight lockstitch would break. That is why sails are sewn with it, why wetsuits and parachute harness use it, and why cargo nets and sports mats are repaired with it. Our zig-zag heads are industrial walking foot or top-and-bottom feed machines with a bite up to 12mm, not converted domestic machines.

The group includes flatbed zig-zags like the 146RB and 266 for sail and upholstery work, the feed-off-the-arm 2156 for tubular neoprene and rubber-coated fabric, and the 30 inch long arm 2153L30 for full-size sails and covers.

Choose this type when

  • You make or repair sails, kites, or anything in woven cloth that needs a flexible seam.
  • You sew neoprene, elastic, rubber-coated fabric or wetsuit panels, especially in tubes.
  • You join webbing or make nets, slings and harness where a zig-zag or three-step zig-zag is specified.

Typically made on it

  • Sails and sail repairs
  • Wetsuits and dive gear
  • Parachutes and harness
  • Cargo nets and sports mats
  • Decorative zig-zag on upholstery

Frequently asked questions

Do your zig-zag machines also sew a straight stitch?

Yes. Set the width to zero and you have a heavy-duty straight stitch walking foot machine. Many small lofts run one zig-zag head for both.

What is feed-off-the-arm?

The arm points toward you and the material feeds off its end. You slide a tubular piece, a wetsuit leg for example, over the arm and the seam runs along it. The 2156 is a feed-off-the-arm zig-zag with top and bottom feed.
