About the 2153L30

The 2153L30 gives a sail loft or a canvas shop what a standard zig-zag cannot: 30 inches between the needle and the arm. A sail panel, a boat cover or a large awning section lies to the right of the needle instead of being rolled, and the walking foot moves heavy cloth and laminate evenly along a seam that might be ten feet long. The zig-zag is wide, the straight stitch is available, and reverse is built in.

It is a medium-heavy head; for the heaviest cloth and 277 thread the 204 and 266 class machines are the right tools, and for most sail and cover work this is the one that fits the job.

Is 30 inches really necessary for sails?

For panel seams on anything bigger than a dinghy sail, yes. Sail lofts that have tried to roll a mainsail under a standard arm do not go back.
